Laubwerk Plant Kit 2 – Temperate Deciduous Trees

The following 10 tree species are included in the Plant Kit 2. Each species comes in 36 variations per species, i.e. 3 variants, 3 ages and 4 seasonal aspects, for a total of 360 models per Kit.

Norway Maple

Acer platanoides

Medium-size to occasionally large tree with a round crown and distinguished by larger leaves with pointed triangular (as opposed to blunt) lobes and the presence of one or more teeth on all of the lobes. The tree tends to leaf out earlier than most maples and holds its leaves somewhat longer in autumn. A popular street tree in North America following Dutch elm disease.

Sycamore Maple

Acer pseudoplatanus

A large tree with a broad and round crown. The leaves have five lobes with toothed edges. They are dark green in color with a whitish underside that is often marked with black spots or patches. A popular street tree due to its tolerance of urban pollution.

Horse-chestnut

Aesculus hippocastanum

Tall tree with a domed, dense crown of stout branches and large leaves that are opposite and palmately compound. Leaves turn from medium-green to a strong yellow or brownish yellow in autumn. The leaf scars left on twigs after the leaves have fallen have a distinctive horseshoe shape, complete with seven "nails".

Red Horse-chestnut

Aesculus × carnea

Medium-size tree with a round crown of dense foliage and bright red flowers. Palmate leaves are a shiny dark-green that turn yellow or green in autumn. The tree is an artificial hybrid with an unknown origin, but it probably first appeared in Germany before 1820. It is a popular tree in parks and streets.

Silver Birch

Betula pendula

Medium-sized deciduous tree with a multilayered crown of arched branches and drooping branchlets. Light green triangular leaves with somewhat fragrant shoots change to medium-green before becoming bright yellow in autumn. Visually valued for its elegant shape, white bark with black diamond-shaped patches and gracefully drooping soft green shoots.

Sweetgum

Liquidambar styraciflua

Medium-size tree that is initially slender conical with full-length leading shoot, later ovoid crown. Its leaves are like maple leaves, but alternate. Distinctive foliage of fresh green to medium-green and intense autumn colors from fiery violet-brown or crimson-red to orange and yellow in many hues.

English Oak

Quercus robur

Large deciduous tree with the circumference of grand oaks. The tree has an initially conical, then large widespreading crown of rugged branches. The leaves are obovate to elliptical, late shoots, with medium green colour and golden green or yellow-brown autumn colours. Brown foliage partially remains through winter.

Golden Weeping Willow

Salix alba 'Tristis'

A fast-growing, medium-size, decorative tree. The crown is curved irregularly wide and the long thin branches hang down limply. The branches are bright yellow in spring, light yellow in summer. The bark is light gray-brown. The leaves are first shiny fresh green, then pale green with a bluish back side.

Mountain-ash

Sorbus aucuparia

Small- to medium-sized deciduous tree of slenderly ovoid, loosely asymmetrical shape that becomes wide-ovoid when old. The branches are ascending and rising twigs. The bark of young trees is smooth, silvery grey, becoming scaly pale grey-brown and occasionally fissured on old trees. Its orange-red fruits are round pomes. The leaves are pinnate, with a coarsely serrated margin, dull medium green colored, bluish underneath. The autumn colours are strong yellow-orange or brick-red.

Silver Linden

Tilia tomentosa

An impressively large tree. The crown starts broadly conical or ovoid before growing round. The main branches are stiff and upright, with twigs diagonally rising to horizontal, barely overhanging. The leaves are broadly cordate and asymmetrical. Shoots are whitish grey, then dull green on top, white tomentose underneath. The leaves stay green for a long time before turning pale yellow in late autumn.
