Laubwerk Releases SurfaceSPREAD 2, Plants Kit 15, and Player 1.0.31
Potsdam (Germany), November 29, 2019: German digital botany software company Laubwerk announces version 2 of the successful scattering plugin SurfaceSPREAD for Cinema 4D. Furthermore, the new Plants Kit 15: Subtropical Trees and Palms, as well as the updated versions of Plants Kits 1-14 and Plants Kit Freebie are available for immediate download for SketchUp, Maya, 3ds Max, Cinema 4D, Houdini, and Python.
Laubwerk Plants Kits enable architects, CG artists, and VFX specialists to insert photo-realistic tree models into their 3D scenes quickly and easily, avoiding the usual slowdowns from overly complicated parameters or excess memory usage. Laubwerk makes this possible by providing just the right amount of options in their 3D tree models, without overwhelming the user or their computer. Each tree model comes in three shapes, with three ages, and four seasons per shape. Adjustable detail level settings mean that each tree looks great without slow navigation or long rendering times.
More than ten years after its initial release, Laubwerk announces version 2 of SurfaceSPREAD–the fastest, most efficient, and most creative scattering plugin for MAXON Cinema 4D!
Nuno Silva, architect and visual artist at numa, was one of our beta testers, and gave a glowing review. “I use SurfaceSPREAD in almost all my renders—I can’t live without it! I’ve made several tests with version 2 and was impressed with its stability, even with lots of polygons. What I like most of all it is that you can add effectors right on top of on it!”
New features:
- Native support for R20 & R21 including support for new R21 licensing
- Easier licensing thanks to online activation
- SplineSPREAD object
- SurfaceSPREAD object can be combined with MoGraph Effectors
- Efficient rendering due to Cinema 4D Multi-Instances support
- Point cloud drawing mode
Improvements:
- Performance boost to the editor preview, allowing for massive quantities of instances while using less RAM
- Cinema 4D Hair object link now allows distribution of objects on painted guides
- Many bug fixes

Plants Kit 15 is an exclusive selection of subtropical trees and palms for special plantings in gardens and parks where a Mediterranean or exotic atmosphere is desired, including the western strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo), with its exotic strawberry-like fruit, or the dwarf palm (Chamaerops humilis), with its beautiful, fan-shaped leaves.
Laubwerk user Alberto Cibinetto (Baumatte) used the new kit with SurfaceSPREAD 2 to capture a summer late afternoon in his Mediterranean Shrub: “It was a challenge to capture the flavor of the Mediterranean in a single image, but the newest release from our friends at Laubwerk made it a pleasure. I grounded the scene in a simple architectural composition, and Laubwerk let nature speak for itself.”
The new Kit 15 and all other Laubwerk plants kits are available for €149 each (before VAT) at the Laubwerk store and authorized Laubwerk resellers. Multi-user and EDU discounts are also available. Plants Kit Freebie is available for download at the Laubwerk store, too.
The Laubwerk Player 1.0.31 is a free maintenance update for 3ds Max, Maya, SketchUp, and Cinema 4D. To get the updates, sign in to your Laubwerk Account Page and download a fresh installer for your plants kits. Windows users are advised to uninstall previous versions of the Laubwerk Player plugin before running the new installer.
